Scat Task Force with Columbia Land Trust (Tickets Required)

  • Columbia Land Trust Vancouver, Washington (map)

Columbia Land Trust and the University of Washington's Center for Conservation Biology program, Conservation Canines, have teamed up for adventure. Our quest? Wildlife scat.

We’ll explore part of Columbia Land Trust's Pine Creek conservation property, located on the south side of Mount St. Helens, with Land Trust Stewardship Director Ian Sinks and Conservation Canines trained dog and handler team to identify wildlife scat and collect samples. We’ll learn about the work to restore old-growth forests to the area, while also learning how finding and studying wildlife scat allows scientists to extract a wide variety of genetic physiological, toxicological, and dietary indicators on species abundance, distribution, resource use, and physiological health. Help us get a closer look at the wildlife living on our conserved lands and learn about the dogs and scientists leading this innovative approach to wildlife protection.
